Responsibilities as County Commissioner
Grayson County operates under a Commissioners Court system, consisting of four commissioners—each elected from a quarter of the county’s population—alongside the county judge. In addition to ensuring that county roads are maintained, commissioners play a vital role in shaping the county’s future by voting on budgets, tax rates, and policies that impact residents.
Among other responsibilities, the Commissioners Court:
- Sets the yearly property tax rate and approves the budget for ALL county departments.
- Establishes precinct boundaries for commissioners and justices of the peace.
- Conducts and certifies elections, including bond elections.
- Determines employment and benefit policies for county employees.
- Develops long-term plans for infrastructure, land use, and law enforcement needs.
- Oversees the construction, maintenance, and improvement of county roads and bridges.
- Reviews and approves rural subdivision platting and wastewater treatment.
- Provides rural ambulance services and supports rural fire protection.
- Supervises county buildings, facilities, and properties.
- Authorizes contracts and appoints department heads and committees.
- Fills vacancies in elected and appointed positions.
Lindsay is committed to transparent leadership and working alongside local leaders and citizens to address community concerns. She encourages residents to stay engaged in shaping the future of Precinct 3 and Grayson County.
