About the Program

The Grayson County Office of Emergency Management is now accepting applications for the Grayson County Individual Safe Room Program. The program is funded through a grant provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM.)

The program offers a 50% rebate, up to $3,000, for the installation of a FEMA certified safe room/storm shelter. Before installation can begin the homeowner must complete an application and receive an approval letter from Grayson County. The program serves the unincorporated areas of Grayson County as well as all sixteen of its cities: Bells, Collinsville, Denison, Dorchester, Gunter, Howe, Knollwood, Pottsboro, Sadler, Sherman, Southmayd, Tioga, Tom Bean, Van Alstyne, Whitesboro, and Whitewright.

Get Started:

Step 1
You should determine if the residence in which the safe room/storm shelter would be installed lies within a FEMA or locally-mapped floodplain.

Step 2
Complete Rebate Application and Submit to Grayson County Office of Emergency Management for review
.

Step 3
Receive Rebate Award Letter from Grayson County Office of Emergency Management.

Step 4Identify the contractor who will provide and install the unit in your home.

Step 5
Complete the installation of the unit and submit your documentation per the instructions provided in the Grayson County Office of Emergency Management letter of notification you will receive (if awarded) authorizing you to proceed with the unit installation.

Step 6

Inspection by our staff of your installation.

Step 7

Rebate payment to you - Please keep in mind that, in our experience, it sometimes takes months for the State of Texas to send us the rebate funds to pay to you. We have to apply for each individual rebate with your documentation. Please budget accordingly.
