Serving as an Election Worker
Do your strengths include excellent customer service skills, learning quickly and accurately following instructions? Are you interested in serving your community in the election process? Grayson County is constantly adding to their team of election workers.
Basic job duties:
- Greeting and assisting each voter as they arrive at the polling site
- Verifying the eligibility of voters at the check-in station
- Providing instruction and assistance to voters with registration issues, voting equipment, including ADA accessibility to the polling site and curbside voting, etc.
- Maintaining an orderly polling site in accordance with the Texas Election Code
- Answering voters’ questions
- Assisting the election judge with the completion of election forms and paperwork as needed
- Bilingual clerks may serve as translators for voters and other poll workers in assisting limited English speakers during the voting process
- Assist the election judge following the close of the polls in closing down the polling site
- Take assignments from the election judge
Will training be provided?
All poll workers receive approximately two (2) hours of training from Elections Administration staff on the equipment, procedures, documentation and customer service needed for a successful polling site
How much will I be paid?
Election clerks are paid $10 per hour, and election judges are paid $12 per hour. Attendance at training is also compensated.
What is the average time commitment?
During early voting, election clerks should plan to be available to work in 4-6 hour or 12 hour shifts, for a minimum of two days. On Election Day, the shift is approximately 12 hours. Elections are held every May and November. Primary elections are also held in even-numbered years and generally occur in March. We understand that your availability might vary by each election.
Basic eligibility requirements:
- Registered to vote in Grayson County
- Able to take direction well, enjoy interaction with people and have a desire to help voters
- Attend worker training session prior to the election
- Student election clerks must be 16 or older (inquire for student application)
- Affiliated as a Democrat or Republican (necessary for primary elections only)
- Cannot be an elected official or employed by elected official
- Cannot be employed by or a relative of a candidate on the ballot
